I worked with Fern as we constructed our new home. Fern designed our four full bathrooms, including all of our tile selections, all of our window treatments (20+), various pieces of furniture throughout the house, selected various rugs, fabrics, lighting fixtures and lamps, and helped me select the colors used in the house (walls and trim – and every room is a different color) as well as wallpaper in our master bedroom. Fern also designed our kitchen and helped select the granite countertops, porcelain floors and tile backsplash. We love our home, and everyone who visits is so complimentary of all of Fern's contributions. Fern made our new home our dream home and we are so grateful. She is an amazing talent, easy to work with, and flexible in her approach. She listened to us and our desires and never tried to impose her preferences on us; it just happened that she was always right!.

She has decorated almost every room in my home- kitchen, living room, dining room, bedrooms and den. Decorating a home is hard work. Building a home from scratch is even harder. Nevertheless that is what my husband and I undertook 8 years ago. Within weeks I knew I was way over my head. Fortunately I was aware that the mother of my daughter’s friend was an interior decorator, so I reached out to her for help and that is how Fern Mottes saved my sanity. Through more than two years of work we chose everything in my house, from layout to flooring, paint, carpets, furniture, artwork and decorative pieces.  The most important part of this collaborative effort was the fact that she listened to me, she learned my likes and dislikes and she understood what I was trying to do, even though I didn’t know how to execute it. In addition she always worked within my budget and that to me was remarkable.   The result is a home that besides being beautiful is warm, inviting and comfortable.  I never get tired of the compliments my home receives. If you are looking for a designer with impeccable taste and a great work ethic then I highly recommend Fern Mottes; you will thank me later. In addition I would like to also mention that on October 29th 2012 my home suffered devastating damage from Hurricane Sandy.  Fern worked tirelessly to help us rebuild and refurnish our home as closely as possible to the way it was before the storm and she succeeded brilliantly.

My husband and I would like to take this time to thank you for the two years of your time and dedication you gave us in restoring our Sandy ravaged house back to a warm and lovely home.

You really caught the feel we wanted with the pleather of colors. From the walls to the curtains, furniture and floor coverings. You managed to really create a wonderful atmosphere in all 5 rooms of our home that were destroyed.

Who knew that paying for a professionals hard work would save us money in the long run. We saved so much money when ordering our furniture, wall hangings, curtains, rungs and lighting that it was enjoyable to see the savings as much as seeing our house become a home.
